Nios: The Isle of Youth
Supported by EKKOMED (Greek Film Center).
We are in Ios. In a club. Three friends together, each in his own world. The camera is glued to Elias, like the world – the film revolves around him. Camera in hand and quick cuts compose a mood of alienation, ego-centricity and anxiety (about the future?).
The character wants to escape, to go away, to discover.
The solution seems to lie in Yannis, a fisherman in his 60s, who after the death of his wife, the man of his life, is indescribably lonely. Together they pick up nets and explore another side of the island. The shots open, Elias and John share the frames. The pace drops, the shots breathe and realisation sets in. He has to go back, find his friends, stay together before adulthood comes.
